Cecily's Redwood - LA

In Franklin Canyon Park ... at the base of this huge sheltering tree, with Maddie at my side, I scattered the portion of Cecily's ashes I had saved from the trip up north to Redwood National Park.  I poured them in such a way, I hope, that they will in nature's manner be taken up by the roots of the tree someday and that Cec, therefore, will always be at one with this monument to life.  For all her fears and her ultimate frailty, she was herself a monument to life.  The fraction of herself that she left behind is now mixed inseparably with the forest life she loved, both in the beauteous spot up north she so treasured and in a nearby glade where we who loved her can walk and visit and know she is near.  from Jim's May 7 e-mail
